The Physician Specialist in TBCP serves as a consultant in all aspects of tuberculosis work in the Department of Public Health and provides expertise in: clinical medical consultation, case management, infection control, exposure and contact investigations, and issuance of Health Officer’s legal orders, according to local, state, and national codes, regulations, and guidelines. The Physician Specialist also participates in quality assurance activities, development of policy and best practice guidelines, and education of health professionals and the public.

Reporting to the Health Officer/Director, the Deputy Health Officer acts as the Infectious Disease and Response Branch Director, with overall administrative and programmatic responsibility for the Infectious Disease and Response Branch, which includes Communicable Disease Prevention and Control (including the Immunization Program), Tuberculosis Prevention and Control, STD/HIV Prevention and Control, Public Health Disaster Preparedness and Response, Public Health Laboratory, and Public Health Pharmacy. The position is responsible for shaping and leading all aspects of the Infectious Disease & Response branch, including strategic direction and administrative oversight and will serve as the
backup for the Health Officer and Assistant Health Officers and will act as the medical/physician liaison to other County departments.

The CDCP Director is the Communicable Disease Controller for San Francisco and reports to Susan Philip, the Director of the Disease Prevention and Control Branch.  The CDCP Director provides oversight and consultation for communicable disease control, prevention, and surveillance in San Francisco, and leads the CDCP Section, which includes the Communicable Disease Control Unit, the Communicable Disease Prevention Unit, and the Adult Travel and Immunization Clinic (AITC).

The Health Communications Specialist will work on a new statewide tuberculosis (TB) prevention initiative aimed at promoting prevention strategies to reduce the burden of TB disease in California. The Health Communications Specialist will use skills as an experienced communications and education professional to design, implement, coordinate and evaluate a statewide communication and training strategy focused on testing for and treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) for patients at high risk for progression to active disease. The position will lead the communications strategy that engages community healthcare providers throughout the state on TB prevention.
