Tuberculosis Elimination Heroes

CTCA honors Tuberculosis Elimination Heroes, community healthcare providers, leaders, and individuals working to prevent and eliminate TB disease across California in March for World TB Day. With this honor, CTCA highlights efforts being made outside of public health departments to end TB. Heroes inspire action.
Recognize your heroes in the private sector. Submit your nominees using the form linked below by 3-10-26. Your nominees will receive a copy of your nomination language, congratulating and thanking them for their highlighted work. They”ll be asked for a photo and permission to post this information here https://ctca.org/tb-heroes/ and on CTCA’s social media accounts during World TB Day.

TB Champion Award

 honors a California practitioner who has championed the treatment, control, and elimination of TB in California and the United States. This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional service, commitment, and leadership.

Andy Lopez Memorial Award

 honors exceptional contributions by allied health professionals to tuberculosis control in California. It provides support for travel and attendance at the annual conference, where the award is presented.

Brenda Ashkar Award

honors a registered nurse in California who works in TB control. Recipients demonstrate leadership, flexibility, creativity, and a commitment to improving the health of their community. 

Henry A. Renteln Award

honors a practitioner or public health official with 15+ years of experience who has made significant contributions to tuberculosis control in California.

Patient Advocate Award

honors those who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to supporting those affected by tuberculosis. This award recognizes advocates who have worked to amplify patient voices.

Private Partner Award

 recognizes a private sector partner who has advanced CTCA’s mission through demonstration of leadership in tuberculosis patient care and community prevention.

Honorary Members

 esteemed colleagues, often retired from TB program leadership roles, whom we hope to keep engaged in California’s TB elimination efforts. These recipients receive free admission to all CTCA meetings and conferences.
