Congratulations on this well-deserved award, Bob!! Your dedication, kindness, integrity, optimism, deep knowledge about health systems, focus on equity, and compassion have been an inspiration to me and so many others in public health. I first met you in the late 1980s when I was a totally green 20-year-old CDC public health associate assigned to Alameda County and we both had BIG hair and BIG eyeglasses. You were always approachable, patient, funny, and an excellent teacher. I am grateful to have had many opportunities to work with you and learn from you as our paths have intersected at various times over the decades while working on syphilis, the mobile clinic, and TB. Thank you for teaching me how to make good trouble. You are truly one of my public health heroes. All my best wishes to you!!
With deep gratitude,
Tambi Shaw
