World TB Day 2015

On March 24, 1882, Dr. Robert Koch’s discovery of the TB bacillus. One hundred years later, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Union Against TB and Lung Disease (IUATLD) celebrated the 100th anniversary of this landmark in the fight against TB, establishing March 24th as an annual opportunity to call attention to the devastation TB still causes, and the commitment it will take to end TB.

March 21, Katie’s Dance Studio dancers helped the California TB Controllers Association celebrate World TB Day, March 24th, 2015 with a flash mob in Berkeley’s Ohlone Park. A flash mob with a message: Stop TB.  Together we can find, cure, and prevent TB in California.

San Francisco

March 18th, San Francisco media event and Bay Area Controllers and Corrections meeting held to discuss area TB Control challenges and successes. You can watch Julie Higashi, PhD, MD, SF TB Controller present an award of service to pioneering TB laboratorian Anna Babst, Senior Microbiologist,
for her 34 years of dedicated service and share with the Bay Area TB contontrol community her SF General Hospital-based implementation of rapid testing to rule out TB transmission risks.
